In the Wat Arsom Bangmot of Bangkok, Thailand, a mystical guru emerged after the Buddhist year 2480 (1937 AD). He was revered as the “Fire Deity,” Luang Phor Opasee, a devoted disciple of Luang Phor Kob, even though the two never met in person. They communicated through meditation, and Luang Phor Kob eventually imparted the supreme meditation techniques to Luang Phor Opasee.
Brief Introduction of the Master:
Although the birth year of Luang Phor Opasee remains unknown, he peacefully passed away on the 31st of October in the Buddhist year 2498. This master possessed profound knowledge of Buddhism, recognizing that all material possessions in the world are the roots of human greed, aversion, and ignorance. As a result, he unhesitatingly set fire to anything offered to him as alms. On one occasion, he came close to igniting the Imperial Temple, infuriating the villagers who petitioned for his expulsion. Eventually, the Sangha Supreme Patriarch, Somdej Phra Sankaraj, issued an order to remove Luang Phor Opasee. Fortunately, the Bangkok Chinese Abbot, Luang Phor Bao Erng, provided him with a refuge.
In the Buddhist year 2498, the chief monk from India sent an invitation letter to Luang Phor Opasee and his two disciples to attend a monk’s conference on the 28th of October. However, Luang Phor Opasee informed his disciples that he couldn’t attend the conference on the specified date but would arrive on the 31st. His disciples went ahead to inform the organizers. On the 31st, many people waited at the airport for Luang Phor Opasee, but he did not show up. When they returned to the temple, they discovered that he had already passed away.
Simultaneously, the two disciples who had gone to the conference saw Luang Phor Opasee arrive on the 31st. Later, they received a letter notifying them of his passing. They found it hard to believe because they had witnessed him participating in the conference and sharing Buddhist teachings with monks from other countries.
