Reciting scriptures mechanically, without understanding their true meaning, is not in accordance with the essence of Buddhism. Without grasping the true intentions of the Buddha, recitation of scriptures is futile.

I pay homage to the Blessed One, the Fully Self-Enlightened Buddha, who has transcended worldly defilements and attained perfect enlightenment.

I bow to the Sangha, the Blessed One’s disciples who have practiced well and followed the path. (One bow)

禁止服饮酒类，我学习受持此戒。
