The Four-Faced Buddha, actually not yet a Buddha, is more accurately referred to as the Four-Faced God. According to Buddhist scriptures, He is known as the “Great Brahma King.” In this heavenly realm, beings possess four faces, symbolizing the “Four Immeasurables” of loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity. The Four-Faced God is one of the three principal deities in Hindu Brahmanism, representing the god of creation and belonging to the class of celestial beings. In Thailand, He is revered as the deity who grants wishes, making it easier for devotees’ desires to be fulfilled.

The Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok is a world-renowned pilgrimage site, attracting thousands of devotees and tourists daily. Believers hold that sincere prayers for business success, health, love, or family will be heard and granted by the Four-Faced God. Each of the four faces represents kindness, wealth, health, and wisdom, symbolizing different aspects of life. Due to the high rate of fulfilled wishes, the Four-Faced God enjoys immense popularity in Thailand and throughout Southeast Asia, becoming a guardian deity in the hearts of many.
